mentoring a girl in construction

MAGIC Camp is a free, week-long day camp available to girls in grades 7th through 12th grade.  The camp is designed to introduce the girls  to construction and the numerous career opportunities available to women in a construction related field. Many young girls are unaware that a career in construction can be extremely fun and financially rewarding.  MAGIC Camp is designed to give the girls real hands-on experience to gain better knowledge of the industry, and experience the exhilaration of successfully performing tasks that promote leadership and team-building skills, as well as build self-confidence, self-esteem, and boost their overall self image.   We partner with several of the local trade unions in the Philadelphia area to make this experience possible for young women in Pennsylvania.  The Philadelphia Chapter hosted it's first MAGIC Camp in 2009 and has continued to gain tremendous support and popularity since then.

Camp objectives

      • Introduce young girls to women role models including: tradeswomen,  engineers, architects, project managers, superintendents, lawyers, business owners, and administrative support.
      • Provide a supportive and nurturing environment for girls to explore and develop basic skills in carpentry, electrical, fire sprinkler, painting, taping, glazing, and laboring.
      • Offer girls a gender neutral environment to learn and practice new skills without fear of being teased or isolated.
      • Develops a Safety First attitude and a "We Can Do It" mindset.
      • Introduces girls to apprenticeship programs and scholarship opportunities
