Chapter 145 President's Message
Dear Members,AMEC (Annual Meeting Education Conference) 8/16/17-8/19/17 Anaheim, CA.
This year AMEC started off with chapter presidents meeting with Connie Leipard (National out-going president), the first timer orientation and a fun filled beach theme opening night party with live music and dancing on Wed. 8/16/17.

On Thur. 8/17 the business meeting was opened with a guest speaker, the Mayor of Garden Grove, CA.,followed by Aimie Cohen, author of "Women Up: Overcome the 7 deadly Sins that Sabotage Your Success". One thing I carried away fromthis seminar is to create a 'brag-book', in another words, a portfolio of my accomplishments that will help to achieve successful projects. The national 2017-2018 directors of the board and officers were installed. Check out detailed information by visiting attached website link http://www.nawic.org/nawic/Convention.asp
The surprise present for the retiring executive vice president Dede Hughes was a retirement quilt that was created by sawing together each chapter's themed art work representing their locality. Our chapter's Liberty Bell art work was designed by our immediate past president Ashley Poglese. It was truly a magnificent quilt.

On Fri. 8/18, I attended "Ask Outrageously!" a professional workshop by Linda Swinding, and afterwards I attented a NAWIC Panel Follow-Up to 'Ask Outrageously!' moderated by Jessica Murphy, Esq. with panel members Barbara Allen (Kansas City MO), Deborah Beachner (SE Kansas chapter) and Amber Kinney (Birmingham AL). They shared their secret to getting what you really want. I wish everyone of you could have joined these wonderful seminars and meet women in construction from far and wide. In the afternoon, I attended the PR/Marketing and Membership Seminar with one purpose in mind for our chapter PR/Marekting and Membership chairs: "Bringing NAWIC into the Future" by Victoria Kurczyn, 2017-2018
PR/Marketing Chair and Jillian Penkin, 2017-2018 Membership Chair brought energetic and dynamic young members' insights while connecting our chapter's wisdom. The Evening Gala was dazzling and many different achievement awards were given out. The DC chapter president Romina Byrd was awarded the 'Future leader of the year award'. She may be attending our 9/20/17 event to reconnect with Gerry Burton who is one of our chapter members and who started the DC chapter in the 60's. Left Photo shows Romina Byrd on the left.
